If your child has outstanding fees for Camp Homewood, you need to send a cheque ASAP. I will have students write the outstanding amount in their planners again today.

This is just a reminder that the balance of your child’s Camp Homewood fee is due. Your child have received the balance amount last week that had all the fundraisers deducted (Coffee Order, Plants Order & Walk-a-thon). You can send a cheque made out to Sunset Elementary School. Please write Camp Homewood & your child’s name in the memo section.

There will be a short meeting for all the chaperones for the Camp Homewood trip tonight (Tuesday, May 10) @ 6:00pm. The meeting should only take 15-20 minutes. We’ll be meeting in the Library again.

The grade 6’s will be leaving the school at 8:45 am sharp. We are traveling to the Port Hardy Civic Centre to attend the 6/7 STEM Challenge, so students should be at the school by 8:30 am. STEM is a problem solving program that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering & Math. It should be an interesting and fun day.

They need to bring a lunch, water bottle and appropriate clothes. There will be a concession open if they want to bring a little money.

We will be returning to the school at approx. 3:15 pm.

Grade 5’s will be attending school as normal, but they will be in Mrs. Jack, Mr.Mollinga & Mrs. Jok’s classes. Where each student will be going for the day will be posted in the white in the class when they arrive in the morning.

This week’s Spelling unit is a little different than other weeks, in that there is only one combined list. List A students will have all the words for the weekly test and the List B students will just have the first 10 words. List B students can try all 18 as a challenge if they choose.

List A & B Words: geology, geometry, geography, action, enact, bicycle, autograph, automobile, autobiography, photograph

List A also have the following words: geologist, transport, import, portable, cyclone, encyclopedia, automatic, telegraph

Assignments & Test Due Friday!

The staff has decided to run a mini/practice Track & Field Meet this year so that all students have a chance to try out the various events to see what they might like to sign up for, go to practices and eventually attend the actual Track Meet in early June.

We will start the rotations right after recess.  We will break for lunch and then continue in the afternoon to make sure that every student has a chance to try all the events.

We can always use a couple extra parent helpers if you can make it.

All the students in Grade 6 & 7 have been invited to take part in an all day event in Port Hardy on Wednesday. They need to return the permission forms by Tuesday. They will not be allowed on the bus without a signed permission form Wednesday.
