Our First Walking Field Trip this Friday!

Our class will be buddies with Mrs. Wadham’s Kindergarten Class at Cheslakees. We will be walking there this Friday at 1:25 pm, returning by 3:00 pm. We will alternate walking with the K’s, they will walk to our class next week.

Please remind your child to dress for rain on Fridays for the walk, waterproof coats and gumboots. They are also welcome to bring umbrellas.

Having a buddy class gives the grade 4’s a chance to be a positive role model for the younger students. It will also give the K’s a chance to get to know some students at Sunset to help with their transition to grade 1 next year. Students will be taking part in a variety of activities, such as: buddy reading, helping the K’s write, completing Art projects together, taking part in outdoor activities & games, and getting in some extra P.E./Daily Physical Activity.

Fire Safety Week

Two members of the Port McNeill Fire Department visited our class today to talk about Fire Safety. They asked students to complete the following homework items:

1. Test all the smoke alarms in the house with your parents. Smoke alarms should be tested every month and batteries replaced once a year. You also need to check the expiry dates on all your smoke alarms.

2. Discuss an escape plan with your parents – Remember to have a meeting place once everyone is outside.

3. Open House at the Firehall – Thursday, October 9th @ 6:30pm.

Socials Project “About Me”

We have been discussing culture in class and the students are starting a poster about themselves. There are two parts to the assignments:

1. About Me: They are to write a paragraph or two about themselves.

2. About My Family: They were asked to write a paragraph or two to describe their family.

Some ideas for the poster are to look at your family’s traditions or culture, for example, favorite foods, beliefs, formal clothing, music, stories, etc.

I will be taking photos of all the students for their posters, but if they would like to bring a photo from home that they would like to use, they are more than welcome to.

The notice also included a First Nations self-identification application. First Nations support is based on a self-identification process and not status. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school or Caleb Child for more information.
