We started the Monday brainstorm for this week’s – Paragraph of the Week.
The topic is: Brainstorm about the best present you ever received. Write down reasons it was so good, why you like it and describe as many details as you can about it.

Assignment Due & Test THURSDAY!
We have been discussing possible topics for a Science project of the students’ choice this week. Students can complete a study (research project) or an experiment. The project is mandatory, but entering it into the Science Fair is optional.
Backboards can be ordered through the office for $8.40. The deadline to order a backboard is next Wednesday, February 17. I will remind students Monday.
Students will be presenting their research/experiment to the class on March 1 & 2 and the school based Science Fair is on Thursday, March 3.
For the presentation to the class the students can complete in a form of their choice – poster, PowerPoint, Science Fair backboard.

Students will also receive a package about Science Fair Projects Monday – in all the excitement around Valentine’s today, I forgot to hand it out. Students will also have to identify what they want to study.
One simple topic for a research project is to study an animal that they love. Choose an animal and they can use the following worksheets to organize their research: animal research project worksheet.
The class will possibly have a class party tomorrow afternoon. Students can bring treats to share (peanut free). It depends on how behaviour goes today.
Students will vote to watch a movie (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – to wrap up the novel) or a dance in the classroom. We will also have the card exchange and Candy Grams in the afternoon.
I’m trying to keep Friday morning as “normal” as possible, Journals, French, Spelling Test, Math and some P.E. The students already fairly wound up.

Assignment Due & Test Friday – Don’t forget there is one less day to complete the homework assignments due to Family Day on Monday.
It’s that time of year again and love is in the air, Valentines!
The class will have a card exchange Friday afternoon. Class lists will be passed out today (I cannot post the list due privacy issues). Cards must stay in their backpacks until the afternoon.
One very important rule I have is that if you are going to hand out cards, you must give one to everyone. It’s an all or nothing situation, no students are to be excluded.
Candy Grams purchased from the Students’ Council will also be distributed after lunch Friday.
The Students’ Council will be selling Candy Grams all next week for $0.50 each. They are a card with a Valentine’s message with a chocolate attached. They will be on sale in front of the office at recess and lunch from Tuesday to Thursday (they may also be sold Friday at recess). The Candy Grams will be delivered Friday afternoon in class.
There should have been a notice that came home in the students’ planners last Thursday.
Monday, Feb. 8 is Family Day in BC. It is a statutory holiday; therefore, school is not in session. I hope everyone can find some time to have fun and relax with their families. Hopefully the weather improves to allow us to get outside.
