Mr. Ogren's Music Class

The DeVry plant orders are now due next Friday, April 22. DeVry extended the deadline.

If your child collected ordered please return them to school. Please return the order forms even if they are blank.

The class was working right up to the bell and we forgot to do planners. There was not really anything to write in them today anyway. Almost all students completed the adding decimals worksheet in class and the writing/socials assignment was to finish the rough draft, start typing the good copy and locating the mailing address of a school somewhere in Canada for the Great Canadian Mail Race. Students drew names and we have letters heading to every province and territory in Canada!  Hopefully we get a few responses before the end of the year. We will be marking the responses on a map of Canada posted in the classroom.

Two notices were sent out today, the first was a notice about the school calendars for the next few years. You can have a look at the proposed calendars at www.sunsetschool.ca.

The other notice was from Overweitea and their support of the fruit and veggie program at the school. The notice included a couple coupons for tomatoes and cucumbers that the students have tried over the past few months. The last round of veggies were snap peas and they were very tasty!

The class walked to the Police Station today to hang some red hearts from the trees to show our support for our local detachment and respect for Constable Beckett. Constable Sarah Beckett worked with many students at our school in the past, from teaching DARE to the Grade 5’s to just helping out around the school.  Officer Mike came out to thank us for messages. He also presented all the students with “Tickets for being Great Citizens!” – coupons for free slices of pizza!

Our class is hosting the INSTA-Win Booth Friday night at the Sunset Fun Fair. We only have one parent volunteer so far. We are in dire need of two more. There are three shifts of an hour each. So if you can volunteer for a shift that would be awesome. Please write a note in your child’s planner. The Fair runs from 5 – 8 pm. Thank you.

The school is encouraging students/staff to wear red on Tuesday, April 12th,  to remember Constable Sarah Beckett who was tragically killed on duty last week in Langford. Constable Beckett worked with students at Sunset when she was stationed in Port McNeill.

The class will also be walking over to the Police Station to hang some hearts with messages of support for the police tomorrow morning. Please dress for rain, as we will go rain or shine.

If students do not have any red clothing, they can make a heart and pin it to their clothes at school.

The students are working on a letter for the Great Canadian Mail Race. This is a program where students in grade 5/6 write letters to random schools around Canada. The goal is to be the first student to receive back or from the farthest away.

We received a letter from a student in Victoria that used to live in Port McNeill. A couple students have volunteered to write him back, to help him with his race.

The homework for the weekend is to have a rough copy of their letter finished for Monday. We will be editing the letters next week and hopefully getting them in the mail by the end of next week.

We have been working on mapping Canada and I will have students try to send letters to all provinces and territories in Canada.

The second round of Coffee Orders for Camp Homewood are in. They will be sent home with those students that placed orders.

We will be calculating the individual fundraising totals soon. That will allow us to calculate the balance owed for Camp Homewood. We will be hosting one more fundraiser, the Walk-a-Thon, which will take place in late April.
